Tidewater Provincial Park is a 979.78 hectare natural environment park established in 1970. Ontario Parks places it in northern Ontario near the salt waters of James Bay and Hudson Bay, and says it is operated through an agreement with Moose Cree First Nation.
The park consists of five islands in the Moose River estuary close to Moose Factory and Moosonee. Ontario Parks says water taxis from Moosonee take visitors to the park islands.
Tidewater is an unusual Ontario camping destination shaped by estuary travel, northern access, and coastal wildlife. Ontario Parks says visitors may glimpse a seal or the milky white back of a beluga whale from the campgrounds.
The official page also identifies Tidewater as a destination for people canoeing the Missinaibi River or Abitibi River. To reach the park, visitors either fly to Moosonee or travel from Cochrane on the Polar Bear Express train service, which runs daily in the summer months.
Ontario Parks cautions that winds, tides, and river currents can challenge even experienced canoeists. That caution should anchor every route plan.
