Sahkeesuhkuh Weesuhkaheegahn Provincial Park | Ontario

Sahkeesuhkuh Weesuhkaheegahn Provincial Park is an 8,873 hectare unclassified provincial park established in 2011. Ontario Parks places it in the southern portion of the Whitefeather Forest, extending northward from the shores of Nungesser Lake.

The official page says the park's geographic and landform characteristics are unique. A series of parallel glacial ridges stretching into Pringle and Nungesser lakes is known as a De Greer Moraine and as the "Backbone of the Land" to the Pikangikum people.

Why Visit Sahkeesuhkuh Weesuhkaheegahn Provincial Park

This park is important for people researching glacial landforms, watershed divides, and Whitefeather Forest protected areas. Ontario Parks identifies the moraine as a provincially significant life science feature.

The watershed divide between the Berens and English River watersheds runs through the park. From Pringle Lake, waters flow north into the Berens watershed; from Nungesser Lake, waters flow south into the English River watershed.

Ontario Parks also notes that Indigenous people conduct traditional activities on this land for livelihood and cultural purposes. There are no visitor facilities available, so public planning should be careful, respectful, and grounded in official guidance.

The long name also makes route notes and map labels worth checking carefully before departure.

Things To Do

Plan around landform research, watershed study, map reading, Whitefeather Forest context, low-impact nature observation, remote-area preparation, and learning about the relationship between Pringle Lake, Nungesser Lake, and the surrounding ridges.

Planning Notes

Confirm access, permissions, no-facility limitations, maps, alerts, cultural and sensitive-area guidance, road or water approach, weather, communications, and emergency planning through Ontario Parks before travelling.
