Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park | Ontario

Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is a natural environment park west of Thunder Bay with year-round day use, seasonal camping, waterfall viewpoints, trails, gorge scenery, and winter skiing. Ontario Parks lists the park at 500 hectares, established in 1957.

The park is built around one of Ontario's most dramatic road-accessible waterfalls. It works for quick sightseeing, a camping stop, winter trail use, and a deeper visit into the Kaministiquia River landscape.

Why Visit Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park

Ontario Parks highlights the 40 metre high Kakabeka Falls as the second highest waterfall in Ontario, with year-round viewing access. Boardwalks wrap around the top of the falls for views of the falls and gorge.

The official page also notes that the Kaministiquia River has cut into the rock to reveal 1.6 million year old fossils at the base of the falls, that the area is on a historic Voyageur route, and that endangered Lake Sturgeon spawn at the base of the falls. Summer walking and nature trails shift to groomed cross-country ski trails in winter.

Things To Do

Plan around waterfall viewing, boardwalk walks, gorge photography, car camping, group camping, hiking, nature trails, learning about Voyageur history, winter cross-country skiing, and Thunder Bay area road trips.
