Hockley Valley Provincial Park | Ontario

Hockley Valley Provincial Park is a nature reserve six kilometres northeast of Orangeville. Ontario Parks lists the park at 422 hectares, established in 1989.

The park is part of the Niagara Escarpment Parks System and the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve. Ontario Parks says there are no visitor facilities, but the reserve offers good hiking and nature appreciation opportunities.

Why Visit Hockley Valley Provincial Park

Hockley Valley protects a dramatic section of Niagara Escarpment landscape. Ontario Parks describes the escarpment as the result of a long erosion process that cuts across southern Ontario, from Niagara Falls around Lake Ontario and north toward the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island.

Here, the Nottawasaga River cuts a picturesque gorge across the escarpment. Forested moraines and open meadows lie upstream, while swamp and bottomland forest spread across the valley floor for several kilometres.

For visitors, the Bruce Trail and several side trails are the main practical draw. This is a trail and scenery page, not a facilities page.

The short distance from Orangeville makes Hockley Valley easy to notice on a map, but the no-facility status should keep expectations grounded. Carry the basics and use nearby communities for services.

Things To Do

Plan around Bruce Trail hiking, side trail exploration, Niagara Escarpment geology, Nottawasaga River gorge scenery, meadow and bottomland forest observation, nature photography, and nearby Orangeville services.

Planning Notes
