Clear Creek Forest Provincial Park | Ontario

Clear Creek Forest Provincial Park is a nature reserve in Chatham-Kent, crossing Talbot Trail at Clearville about four kilometres west of the Elgin County boundary. Ontario Parks lists the park at 402 hectares, established in 2014.

There are no visitor facilities available, and Ontario Parks says ATV use, horseback riding, hunting, and trapping are prohibited.

Why Visit Clear Creek Forest Provincial Park

The park has both cultural and ecological significance. Ontario Parks says evidence of native inhabitants is part of the areas history, and an archaeological site found within the current park boundary included artifact dating that indicated occupation from 900 to 1500 AD.

The protected forest is a closed-canopy deciduous forest with typical species such as Red Oak, Sugar Maple, American Beech, and Shumard Oak. Ontario Parks also notes 24 rare vascular plants, including Tall Ironweed, a species of midwestern prairies.

Because of the archaeology, rare plants, and prohibited uses, Clear Creek Forest should be framed as a conservation-focused reserve where access and rules matter more than recreation amenities.

The Talbot Trail location also makes the official map and alerts worth checking before any visit, since this is not described as a park with a staffed gate, campground, or built visitor centre. A low-impact plan should keep rare plants and archaeological sensitivity at the centre.

Things To Do

Plan around official research, forest and rare plant awareness, archaeological context, low-impact nature observation where access is appropriate, and nearby serviced parks for camping, washrooms, or broader recreation.

Planning Notes

Confirm access, maps, no-facility expectations, archaeological and rare plant sensitivity, prohibited uses, parking or roadside constraints, alerts, seasonal conditions, and park rules through the official Ontario Parks source before travelling.
