Biscotasi Lake Provincial Park | Ontario

Biscotasi Lake Provincial Park is a natural environment park connected to the Spanish River and Biscotasi Lake backcountry. Ontario Parks lists the park at 12,283 hectares, established in 1989.

This is a backcountry planning page. Ontario Parks lists backcountry camping from May 1 to October 13, 2026, and notes a delayed opening alert, so current alerts should be checked before any trip.

That seasonal alert check is especially important for train or remote road access plans.

Why Visit Biscotasi Lake Provincial Park

Ontario Parks describes the Spanish River and Biscotasi Lake as favourites for backcountry canoeing, with rugged landscape, towering pines, a variety of whitewater, road or train access options, and route choice.

The Spanish River is described as suitable for intermediate canoeists, with Class I and II rapids, swifts, and moving water. Ontario Parks suggests the East Branch for whitewater or taking the train to Biscotasing to begin on the wilder West Branch.

Biscotasi Lake itself offers huge island-studded flatwater paddling and great fishing. The route also has history tied to the Ojibwe, 18th century fur traders, and forest ranger Archie Belaney, later known as Grey Owl.

Things To Do

Plan around backcountry canoeing, flatwater paddling, whitewater decision-making, fishing, island-studded lake routes, train or road access logistics, route history, backcountry camping, and careful skill matching.

Planning Notes

Confirm backcountry registration, delayed opening alerts, access by road or train, route maps, rapid classes, water levels, campsite availability, fishing rules, weather, safety equipment, and park rules through the official Ontario Parks source before travelling.
