Bush plane and fishing country

Stretching from the north shore of Great Slave Lake, east to the Barrenlands and northwest to Great Bear Lake, Big Lake Country is bush plane, fishing, boating and canoeing country. Studded with countless lakes and rivers, some as yet unnamed, it's a paddler's paradise in summer. This part of Canada's Northwest Territories features gentle lakes and streams, and the headwaters of some of Canada's great wilderness canoeing rivers flowing north and east - the Coppermine the Thelon, and wild rivers draining south into Great Slave Lake.

This is fishing country. Hop a bush plane and fly-in to a fishing lodges, or a world class Barrenland hunting camp. Amazingly, a small part of this rugged wilderness is also accessible by road. From Yellowknife, the Ingraham Trail connects a dozen lakes and rivers with boat launches and picnic areas, and two first class territorial campgrounds. Or fly out to our tiny communities and rustic lodges nestled amid legendary ancient granite and blue waters.
