Sugarloaf Provincial Park is at 596 Val-d'Amour Road in Atholville, in New Brunswick's Appalachian Mountain region. NB Parks presents it as a family-friendly getaway or wilderness adventure with mountain hiking, biking, camping, lakes, and a ski lodge.
Sugarloaf's signature outing is the climb to the summit of its 305 m, or 1,000 ft, mountain. The official page describes views over Campbellton, the meeting of Chaleur Bay and the Restigouche River, and the rolling hills of Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula.
The trail network is larger than a single summit path. NB Parks lists more than 25 km, or 16 mi, of hiking and biking trails, including the 4 km, or 2.5 mi, Terry Fox Trail around the base of the mountain. Trail notes also point visitors toward Prichard Lake, White Pine, Trail 11, and a steel lookout platform on the mountain route.
Sugarloaf is also a biking destination. The official page describes the downhill bike park as Atlantic Canada's only lift-service mountain bike park, with trails from beginner to expert and features such as berms, tables, drops, step ups, and wooden structures. Summer camping includes 80 sites, cabins, Ch-A-Lets, playgrounds, tennis courts, and lakes.
The summit climb is short in distance but steep enough to plan deliberately.
Plan around summit hiking, Terry Fox Trail, lift-service mountain biking, camping, cabins, Ch-A-Lets, tennis, lake time, family walks, lodge dining, and Campbellton-area views.
Confirm campground reservations, bike park operations, lift status, trail difficulty, lodge hours, seasonal services, lake access, maps, weather, and NB Parks advisories before travelling.
