That same year, the Municipality of Sainte-Marthe was carved out of the Municipality of Rigaud. However, it was short-lived and was abolished on September 1, 1847. The community didn't lose hope, and in 1851, a post office was opened in Sainte-Marthe, Quebec.
On July 1, 1855, the municipality was reestablished and became a parish municipality in 1857. The village of Sainte-Marthe, Quebec, separated from the surrounding rural parish in 1928 and became the Village Municipality of Sainte-Marthe.
The parish and village merged on December 27, 1980, to form the Municipality of Sainte-Marthe. The community has faced its share of challenges, including a black ice storm on April 5-6, 2023, which caused 623 people to lose electricity.
