Limoges, Ontario
Limoges is an eastern Ontario community near Highway 417 in Ottawa Countryside, east of Ottawa and close to Casselman, Embrun and Russell. It is split between The Nation Municipality and Russell Township, with Larose Forest nearby and Calypso Waterpark making it a recognizable summer stop.
Travellers should not expect an old downtown with blocks of preserved storefronts. Limoges is a growing village at the edge of francophone Prescott and Russell countryside, commuter routes, forest recreation and one major seasonal attraction.
How Limoges Started
Limoges’ public story is more scattered than towns with a single municipal archive because the village straddles two local municipalities. The community website describes it as part of both The Nation Municipality and Russell Township, bordering Larose Forest and sitting near Highway 417.
The strongest sourced landscape history near Limoges is Larose Forest. The Nation Municipality explains that the forest began in 1928 when agronomist Ferdinand Larose planted conifers on abandoned lands damaged by soil erosion. More than 18 million trees have since been planted.
That forest changed the visitor map around Limoges. The village became one of the access points for a large managed forest used for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Modern Limoges has also been shaped by recreation and growth. The Nation identifies its west sector, closer to Ottawa and with Limoges as its flagship village, as an area seeing strong residential growth. Calypso Waterpark added a regional summer draw.
What Limoges Is Like Today
Limoges feels like a fast-growing country-edge community. Subdivisions, local services, schools, parks and commuter traffic sit close to farm roads, forest access and bilingual eastern Ontario culture.
Highway 417 makes Limoges easy to reach from Ottawa, Orleans, Casselman and Embrun, while Montreal is within road-trip range. The village serves residents first but still draws summer visitors and trail users.
Rodolphe Latreille Park gives the village a central community park with trails, play structures, a splash pad, sports fields and courts. Larose Forest extends the outdoor offer beyond the village streets.
Things to Do and Places Nearby
Larose Forest is the year-round anchor. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell list hiking trails from the Limoges sector, including more than seven kilometres from the P7 departure, with winter grooming on a shorter loop.
Calypso Waterpark is the major summer attraction. The park lists its Limoges address and notes that it is about 20 minutes east of Ottawa and 75 minutes west of Montreal. Confirm opening dates, parking rules and hours before building a trip around it.
Rodolphe Latreille Park works for a shorter local stop. It has a splash pad, play structures, skate park, sports courts, trails, picnic areas and washrooms, making it useful for families staying nearby or breaking up a highway drive.
Regional context is straightforward: Casselman for Highway 417 services, Embrun and Russell for village-centre routes, and Ottawa for museums, events and longer stays.

Travel Notes
Limoges is easiest by car. Trailheads, park facilities and Calypso are spread out, and public transit is limited compared with Ottawa.
Summer is best for Calypso, splash pads and family stops. Spring trail access in Larose Forest can be restricted during thaw. Fall is good for forest walks and cycling, while winter supports snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.
Book attraction tickets and check forest conditions before leaving Ottawa or Montreal. A strong day pairs Larose Forest with Calypso or a nearby village stop.
