Plan Spider Lake Park near Qualicum Beach with warm-water swimming, paddling, fishing, picnic areas, seasonal parking, pet rules, and no camping.
Spider Lake Park is west of Qualicum Beach on central Vancouver Island, about 60 kilometres north of Nanaimo. BC Parks describes it as one of the area’s best picnic sites, with a small sandy beach and warm lake water for a quiet family outing.
The park is day-use only, and powerboats are prohibited on Spider Lake.
Why Visit Spider Lake Park
Spider Lake is built for easy lake time: swimming, paddling, picnicking, shoreline exploring, and year-round fishing. BC Parks notes that canoes and kayaks can explore the lake’s secluded bays, while small car-top boats can be launched from the beach near the small parking lot or from a steep banked causeway outside the park.
Anglers visit for stocked rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. A short, easy trail links the two day-use areas, and nearby Horne Lake Caves Park adds a separate caving option about 10 kilometres away.
Things To Do
Swim without lifeguards, canoe, kayak, picnic, fish with the proper licence, walk the short connecting trail, cycle on roadways only, windsurf during windy periods, scuba dive in freshwater, and visit nearby cave opportunities outside the park.
Planning Notes
Camping and campfires are not allowed. BC Parks has removed the drinking-water hand pump, so bring water. Pets must be leashed and kept off beach areas. The main parking lot and day-use area close from October 1 to May 14, when visitors must use the small parking lot. The park does not offer a formal boat launch, and e-bikes are restricted to roads and motorized-use areas.
