Skaha Bluffs Park is on the east side of Skaha Lake, immediately south of Penticton. BC Parks describes it as one of Canada’s premier climbing destinations, with reddish gneiss cliffs, trails, and views in an open Okanagan landscape.

The park was established in 2010 and protects rare species, habitat, and cultural values while supporting climbing access.

Why Visit Skaha Bluffs Park

Skaha Bluffs is best known for technical rock climbing, but it also offers hiking, cycling on roads and trails, horseback riding where permitted, wildlife viewing, and broad valley scenery. BC Parks notes that more than 200 people may climb there on a busy day.

The bluffs are also ecologically sensitive. The official page highlights mature ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, bunchgrass, antelope brush, rare plants, bats, bighorn sheep, deer, and many bird species. Climbing and trail use therefore sit beside a strong conservation mandate.

Things To Do

Climb only with proper skills and equipment, hike designated routes, mountain bike on permitted trails, ride horses where allowed, watch wildlife from a distance, and explore the day-use area. Camping, fires, and hunting are prohibited in the park.

Planning Notes

The three parking lots fill quickly on summer weekends, and there is no overflow parking. Park only in designated areas, do not leave valuables visible, and keep dogs leashed except in clearly marked off-leash areas. There are high cliffs and no lifeguards. E-bikes are restricted to roads and motorized-use areas, not trails. Bring a current climbing guide or trail map, since route choices and descent paths matter.
