Plan Shearwater Hot Springs Conservancy with boat or floatplane access, a bath house, hot springs soaking, anchorage, fishing, paddling, and hunting.

Shearwater Hot Springs Conservancy, also known as Europa Hot Springs, is on the north side of Alan Reach in Gardner Canal, between Shearwater Point and Europa Point. BC Parks says it protects a popular marine hot springs and sheltered boat anchorage site.

The conservancy has no roads or trails and is only accessible by boat or floatplane.

Why Visit Shearwater Hot Springs Conservancy

Shearwater is a remote marine stop built around warm, odorless hot springs water. BC Parks lists a bath house where visitors can soak, with water emerging from cracks in bedrock at about 7.1 litres per minute and about 40.6 degrees Celsius at the source and pool.

Local boaters and fishers commonly stop for soaking, safe anchorage, picnics, and camping. The conservancy also protects portions of a small coastal stream, marine foreshore, intertidal areas, and coastal wildlife habitat. BC Parks places it in the asserted traditional territory of the Haisla First Nation.

Things To Do

Soak in the bath house, anchor carefully, picnic, camp, swim in the cold ocean without lifeguards, kayak the bay if experienced, fish for trout and salmon in the creek under regulations, scuba dive or snorkel when conditions suit, and hunt during lawful seasons.

Planning Notes

The hot springs water is not suitable for drinking. Two mooring buoys were installed in the bay, but visitors should still bring marine charts, weather information, and self-sufficient supplies. BC Parks lists marine chart 3745 and topographic map 103 H/7 for planning. Check current advisories, licences, and hunting or fishing rules before travelling.
