Plan Schoolhouse Lake Park near 100 Mile House with remote lakes, backcountry hiking, trout fishing, camping, float-plane access, and no trail access.

Schoolhouse Lake Park is about 50 kilometres northeast of 100 Mile House, near Canim Beach Park and Ruth Lake Park. BC Parks says the park was identified for protection in the Cariboo-Chilcotin Land-Use Plan and protects representative ecosystems within the Cariboo Plateau Ecosection.

The park is almost circular and contains rolling forested country with several medium-sized lakes.

Why Visit Schoolhouse Lake Park

Schoolhouse Lake is a backcountry destination with limited access. BC Parks lists backcountry hiking, fishing, and camping opportunities, but the official access notes are clear: there is no road access and no trails or roads inside the park.

The best way in is by float plane. Logging roads from the north approach fairly close, but overland travel from there is only for experienced backcountry navigators. Private land south of the park does not provide access.

For people who can reach it responsibly, the reward is a quiet Cariboo lakes landscape that is fished lightly because it is hard to get to.

Things To Do

Plan self-reliant backcountry camping, navigate overland only with strong route-finding skills, fish the lakes for trout with the proper licence, and hunt during open seasons where regulations allow. Keep pets leashed and recognize that backcountry areas are not suitable for pets because of wildlife concerns.

Planning Notes

BC Parks recommends topographic maps 92 P/14 and 92 P/15, plus a compass, for anyone venturing into the park. Do not expect trails, road access, facilities, or easy rescue. Confirm float-plane logistics, weather, fire conditions, fishing and hunting rules, and legal access before committing to a trip.
