Plan Rock Bay Marine Park northwest of Campbell River with foreshore access, Otter Cove anchorage, boat launch, paddling, ocean fishing, scuba diving, and charts.

Rock Bay Marine Park is northwest of Campbell River at the junction of Discovery Passage and Johnstone Strait. BC Parks says the park consists of foreshore only and that nearby land-based operations are private.

The park is a rocky headland with two adjacent bays, accessible by land or water.

All land-based operations near the foreshore park are private.

Why Visit Rock Bay Marine Park

Rock Bay is an important marine recreation area for boaters, paddlers, anglers, divers, and wildlife watchers. BC Parks highlights its attractive waterfront, anchorage, and boat launching area, and notes that Otter Cove on the eastern end provides sheltered anchorage for small boats waiting to navigate nearby tidal passes.

The park protects marine ecosystems and offers good canoeing and kayaking opportunities, ocean fishing under provincial and federal regulations, and excellent scuba diving in rich waters. It is also positioned on Vancouver Island north of Campbell River between Elk Falls and Schoen Lake parks.

Things To Do

Launch or land a boat where appropriate, use Otter Cove as a small-boat anchorage, paddle the foreshore, fish with the proper licence and current Fisheries and Oceans rules, scuba dive if equipped, and watch marine wildlife from shore or water.

Planning Notes

Boaters can reference marine charts 3539 and 3543. A logging road connects the area to Highway 19, and nearby communities include Kelsey Bay, Sayward, Campbell River, and Quadra Island. Pets must be leashed and kept out of beach areas and park buildings. Backcountry areas are not suitable for pets because of wildlife concerns.
