Plan Redfern-Keily Park in the Muskwa-Kechika with Redfern, Fairy and Trimble lakes, hiking, paddling, fishing, winter access, ORV zoning, and no potable water.

Redfern-Keily Park is in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area, 80 kilometres west of the Alaska Highway and about 250 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John. BC Parks lists Redfern, Fairy, and Trimble Lakes within the park.

This is remote Northern Rocky Mountain backcountry, not a quick roadside stop.

BC Parks links zoning maps, a Google Earth file, and GPX files for winter recreation planning.

Why Visit Redfern-Keily Park

Redfern-Keily is known for alpine meadows, forested valleys, serrated peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, large valley lakes, natural arches, and vivid blue glacier-fed lakes. Redfern Lake is about eight kilometres long and one kilometre wide, while Keily Creek contains old-growth spruce and the Besa River area has hoodoos below Mount Dopp.

BC Parks lists hiking, fishing, boating, camping, wildlife viewing, hunting, horseback riding, paddling, dog sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. Wildlife values include mountain goat, Stone sheep, elk, caribou, moose, grizzly bear, black bear, wolves, lynx, and wolverine.

Things To Do

Follow the Redfern Lake Trail, the Sikanni Chief River route, or the Trimble Lake link, camp at wilderness sites, fish or ice fish with a licence, paddle the Besa/Prophet or Sikanni Chief routes where portages are understood, hunt in season, ride horses, and use winter routes where zoning allows.

Planning Notes

Potable water is not available. Weather changes rapidly, avalanche training is strongly recommended for winter travel, and the public cabin at Redfern Lake is first-come, first-served. ORVs, mountain bikes, e-bikes, and snowmobiles are restricted by route, weight, distance, and seasonal zoning.
