Plan Qwalimak/Upper Birkenhead Conservancy north of Pemberton with upper Birkenhead watershed, forest-road access, hiking approach, hunting, and advisories.

Qwalimak/Upper Birkenhead Conservancy is about 60 kilometres north of Pemberton and Mount Currie, in Lil’wat Nation Traditional Territory. BC Parks lists the conservancy in the Sea to Sky region.

It covers about 4,888 hectares in the uppermost reaches of the Birkenhead River watershed.

BC Parks does not list a maps section on this page, so the access descriptions need extra pre-trip checking.

Why Visit Qwalimak/Upper Birkenhead Conservancy

The conservancy protects the headwater country where the Birkenhead River begins before flowing about 60 kilometres through the Coast Mountains to the north end of Lillooet Lake. BC Parks also notes that the conservancy is adjacent to the western boundary of Birkenhead Lake Park.

For trip planning, the official page is mainly about location, watershed context, access, and hunting. The main access is via the Birkenhead River Forest Service Road off the Pemberton-D’Arcy Portage Road, about 35 kilometres northeast of Pemberton. The northern portion can be approached from Hurley River Road, Hope Creek Forest Service Road, and then by foot.

Things To Do

Travel forest roads to approach the conservancy, continue on foot where required, study the upper Birkenhead watershed setting, connect planning with nearby Birkenhead Lake Park, and hunt during open seasons where regulations allow.

Planning Notes

BC Parks does not list camping, trails, toilets, potable water, or day-use facilities on the page. Check current advisories before travelling, carry the route details needed for forest-service-road access, and follow provincial hunting regulations if hunting. Treat the watershed setting carefully and keep any visit low impact.
