Penrose-Ripon Conservancy | British Columbia

Penrose-Ripon Conservancy is a collection of islands on the north side of the entrance to Rivers Inlet. BC Parks says it includes a southern section of Walbran Island and the remainder of Penrose Island that is not included in Penrose Island Marine Park.

The conservancy is about 40 kilometres southwest of Wuikinuxv Village and 90 kilometres southeast of Bella Bella.

Why Visit Penrose-Ripon Conservancy

Penrose-Ripon is a central coast boating and kayaking landscape tied closely to adjacent Penrose Island Marine Park. BC Parks describes the area as a popular boating and kayaking destination and notes that some coves are listed as boat havens.

Protection of cultural uses and values is a dominant purpose of the conservancy. The official page does not list campgrounds, toilets, drinking water, maintained trails, docks, or detailed launch instructions, so visitors should plan as self-sufficient marine travellers rather than serviced-park users. Hunting is the only activity specifically listed on the page.

The islands also sit close to Penrose Island Marine Park, so route planning should consider both official listings.

Things To Do

Boat or kayak if experienced, use listed boat havens where appropriate, observe island shorelines from the water, hunt during open seasons under BC regulations, review the official map, and keep travel respectful of cultural values and wildlife.

Planning Notes

Bring marine charts, weather planning, communications, emergency gear, drinking water, food, and a low-impact plan. Hunting is permitted during open season, but all firearms use must follow regulations. Avoid assuming services from the conservancy page and check advisories before travel.
