Explore Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on Vancouver Island, with Parks Canada links, Long Beach, rainforest trails, Pacific coastline, and park navigation.

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve protects part of Vancouver Island’s west coast in the traditional territories of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations. Parks Canada highlights long sandy beaches, temperate rainforest, rugged Pacific shoreline, and three very different planning areas: Long Beach, the West Coast Trail, and the Broken Group Islands.

This is a national park reserve where ocean conditions, wildlife, trail status, reservations, and permits can shape the whole trip.

Why Visit Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Pacific Rim is one of Canada’s defining coastal parks. Long Beach is the easiest unit to understand first, with beach walking, storm watching, cycling, rainforest trails, and broad ocean views near Tofino and Ucluelet. The West Coast Trail unit is a demanding backcountry experience on Vancouver Island’s outer coast, and the Broken Group Islands offer sheltered bays and shell beaches that Parks Canada says are accessible only by boat.

The park reserve is also a place to slow down and pay attention. Rainforest, beaches, intertidal areas, headlands, marine waters, and cultural connections all sit close together, so a good visit is both adventurous and careful.

Things To Do

Walk beaches, explore rainforest trails, cycle where allowed, watch storms and surf, camp at Green Point Campground, plan a West Coast Trail backpacking trip, paddle or boat in the Broken Group Islands, look for Parks Canada red chairs, join programs, and use official maps and trail reports to choose routes.

Planning Notes

Check Parks Canada before leaving for current bulletins, trail conditions, camping reservations, West Coast Trail and Broken Group Islands permits, fees, tide and current information, beach safety, wildlife guidance, dog restrictions, and seasonal services. Marine weather can change quickly, ocean water is cold, and shoreline hazards are real. Book early for popular dates, carry rain gear and navigation, respect closures, and keep wildlife and cultural places undisturbed.
