Owyacumish River Park is on the north side of Gardner Canal, about 15 kilometres west of Kemano Bay and 70 kilometres southeast of Kitamaat Village. BC Parks says access is by boat only, and Owyacumish River is not suitable for jet boat travel.
The park adjoins Brim River Hot Springs Protected Area.
Owyacumish River Park protects rugged north coast terrain where rivers run through narrow valleys with steep bare rock walls and numerous waterfalls. Snow-capped peaks of the Coast Mountains and Kitimat Ranges surround the area.
The park contains old-growth forests, fish and wildlife habitat, scenic waterfalls, and a marine-freshwater interface that supports wildlife from shorebirds to grizzly bears. Adventurous and experienced paddlers may explore the region, ocean swimming is possible in cold water, and fishing opportunities exist in Owyacumish River. BC Parks also lists hunting during open seasons.
Kitamaat Village and Kitimat are the nearest communities identified by BC Parks. The page includes a park map and area map.
Travel by boat, paddle if experienced, swim in the cold ocean without lifeguards, fish with the proper licence, hunt during open seasons, watch waterfalls and shorebirds, and view old-growth forest and Coast Mountain scenery from suitable locations.
There are no developed trails. Be bear aware on shore, and avoid taking dogs or other pets into backcountry areas. Use Marine Chart 3745 for Gardner Canal and NTS Map Sheet 103 H/9 for Brim River. Bring marine safety gear, communications, and self-rescue planning.
