Owikeno Conservancy | British Columbia

Owikeno Conservancy is about 65 kilometres south of Bella Coola and 20 kilometres east of Wuikinuxv Village. BC Parks says it was established as part of government's land use decision for the Central Coast planning area.

The conservancy protects several tributaries of the largest fjord lake on coastal British Columbia.

Why Visit Owikeno Conservancy

Owikeno Conservancy is a central coast conservation landscape defined by tributaries, salmon, grizzly bear habitat, and cultural heritage. BC Parks highlights high sockeye salmon values, seasonal habitat values for grizzly bears, and extensive cultural heritage values.

The official page is brief and does not list camping, toilets, potable water, maintained trails, docks, visitor facilities, or specific travel routes. It does provide a location map, responsible-travel guidance, and hunting rules. Visitors should therefore treat the listing as protected-area context for a remote coastal watershed rather than a serviced park guide.

The official page offers no detailed activities beyond hunting, so conservation context guides planning. Current advisories should be checked before travel.

Things To Do

Study the fjord-lake tributary system, observe salmon and bear habitat only from safe and lawful positions, hunt during open seasons under BC regulations, review official maps, and keep activity focused on conservation awareness and cultural respect.

Planning Notes

Bring navigation, emergency supplies, weather gear, food, water, and wildlife-safety knowledge for any travel in the broader area. Hunting is permitted during open season, but all firearm use must follow regulations. Respect cultural heritage values, avoid disturbing salmon streams or bear habitat, and check advisories before travel.
