One Island Lake Park is 60 kilometres southeast of Dawson Creek in the Alberta Plateau. BC Parks describes it as a small park beside a clear lake known for fishing, bird watching, swimming, and relaxing.
Access is from Highway 2 east of Dawson Creek for 30 kilometres, then by following park signs.
One Island Lake is a straightforward Peace-region lake park for frontcountry camping and water recreation. The lake provides peaceful canoe and kayak trips, swimming opportunities without lifeguards, waterskiing, windsurfing, and fishing for brook trout and rainbow trout.
The park represents the Kiskatinaw Plateau ecosection and lies in the boreal white and black spruce biogeoclimatic zone. Forests are mainly lodgepole pine, black spruce, and white spruce. Waterfowl gather on the lake, and common wildlife in the area includes moose, white-tailed deer, mule deer, beaver, and black bear. BC Parks notes that the lake is stocked annually with brook and rainbow trout and also supports brook stickleback, finescale dace, and fathead minnow.
The lake covers about 278 hectares, and summer wildflowers include prickly rose, bunchberry, twinflower, and wild vetch nearby.
Camp, swim, canoe, kayak, fish with the proper licence, watch birds and waterfowl, waterski, windsurf, cycle on roadways, and relax beside the clear lake.
Off-road vehicles are prohibited, including ATVs, off-road motorcycles, snowmobiles, and side-by-sides. Pets must be leashed and are not allowed in beach areas. E-bikes are not allowed on trails and are restricted to roads or motorized-use areas.
