Octopus Islands Marine Park is on the northeast side of Quadra Island at the southern tip of Sonora Island, where Quadra, Sonora, and Maurelle islands meet. BC Parks says access is by boat only.
The small island group provides safe anchorages for boaters travelling the Inside Passage.
Nearby communities include Quadra Island, Cortes Island, and Campbell River for trip staging.
Octopus Islands is a marine park for boaters and paddlers who want sheltered water, island anchorages, and wilderness camping. The BC Marine Trails Network Association includes the park as a stop in a network of marine-accessible campsites, resting areas, and safe havens.
Beyond boating and paddling, the park offers ocean swimming, hiking without developed trails, fishing, scuba diving, hunting for waterfowl in season in portions of the park, and nature appreciation. A portage route from Waiatt Bay to Small Inlet Marine Park is a rough trail of about 1.5 kilometres, and a hiking trail from that route leads to Newton Lake for freshwater swimming.
Anchor or paddle among the islands, camp in marine wilderness settings, swim without lifeguards, portage toward Small Inlet, fish under current regulations, scuba dive, watch wildlife, and hunt waterfowl only where open and in season.
Use marine charts 3537 and 3539. Rockfish Conservation Areas occur within the park, so fishing is limited in those areas. There are no developed trails, pets must be leashed, and backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs because of wildlife concerns.
