Nickel Plate Park | British Columbia

Nickel Plate Park is reached from Green Mountain Road by Apex Mountain Road, Hedley Creek/Nickel Plate Forest Service Road, and a short spur to the camping area. BC Parks says access is by four-wheel-drive vehicles only.

The semi-wilderness park centres on Nickel Plate Lake, nearby Lookout Mountain, and large glacial erratic boulders along the north shoreline. BC Parks places it in the Okanagan region near Apex.

Why Visit Nickel Plate Park

Nickel Plate is a secluded Okanagan destination for fishing, hiking, paddling, and winter recreation. Nickel Plate Lake has been a fishing destination since the 1940s and is stocked with rainbow trout by the Summerland Trout Hatchery. Ice fishing is also available.

BC Parks lists swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and access to Sheep Rock in Brent Mountain Protected Area. Nearby Nickelplate Cross-country Ski Club operates groomed runs outside the park, while snowshoeing inside the park has no designated trails. The park was established on December 14, 1938.

Things To Do

Fish or ice fish Nickel Plate Lake with the proper licence, hike, swim without lifeguards, canoe or kayak, hunt during open seasons, cross-country ski nearby groomed routes, snowshoe without designated trails, and photograph glacial boulders and lake scenery.

Planning Notes

Use four-wheel-drive access and expect semi-wilderness conditions. Pets must be leashed, backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs, bicycles must stay on roadways, and e-bikes are not allowed on trails. Follow fishing and hunting regulations, and bring water, warm clothing, and winter safety gear when appropriate.
