Mount Savona Park is off Highway 1 about 35 kilometres west of Kamloops, reached by Tunkwa Lake Road from the town of Savona. BC Parks says the park was created through recommendations from the Kamloops Land and Resources Management Plan.
The summit of Mount Savona is accessible by four-wheel drive and gives excellent views of the dry Thompson River Valley and Kamloops Lake.
Mount Savona is a dry-country park for hiking, nature study, wildlife viewing, cultural heritage appreciation, scenic viewpoints, horseback riding, cycling, and hunting. The landscape includes cliffs, canyons, dry ridges, old-growth Douglas fir, pockets of high-elevation grassland, a small lake, and marshland.
BC Parks also notes important cultural sites for the Skeetchestn First Nation, which visitors must respect if encountered. Conservation highlights include the highest known elevational occurrence of fame flower on Kamloops lava at specific elevations. Fame flower blooms from late May through July, with white flowers that may have pink or yellow tinges.
Hike designated routes, drive to the summit if conditions and vehicle capability allow, watch wildlife, study dry grassland and lava-slope plant communities, ride horseback, cycle where allowed, and hunt during open seasons under BC regulations.
Bring drinking water because there are no water sources, and expect no toilet facilities. Wood ticks are most prevalent from March to June, so wear protective clothing and check yourself and pets. E-bikes are not allowed on trails, and hunting is allowed within 400 metres of the centre of park roads.
