Mount Elphinstone Park | British Columbia

Mount Elphinstone Park is north of Gibsons off Highway 101, near Roberts Creek and Sechelt. BC Parks says the park is made up of three separate parcels on the southwest slopes of Mount Elphinstone.

The park protects an abundance and diversity of forest mushrooms, with old wagon and jeep tracks forming mossy trail routes. Nearby communities include Gibsons, Roberts Creek, and Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast.

Why Visit Mount Elphinstone Park

Mount Elphinstone is a limited-facility Sunshine Coast forest park for hikers and mountain bikers. BC Parks describes late-successional forest with related plant communities and exceptional mushroom diversity, but mushroom or vegetation picking is strictly prohibited.

The informal-feeling trail network comes from old wagon and jeep tracks and allows moderate hiking through the forest. Mountain biking is also allowed. BC Parks notes that large fires burned through the area in the late 1800s, leaving concentrations of large fire-scarred Douglas fir. The closest access roads listed are Crow Road and the B&K Forest Service Road. The park offers limited recreational use and has no facilities.

Things To Do

Hike mossy routes, mountain bike where appropriate, study forest structure, photograph mushrooms without touching or removing them, look for fire-scarred Douglas fir, and hunt during open seasons where regulations allow.

Planning Notes

There are no facilities. Do not pick mushrooms or remove vegetation. Obey posted signs, stay on designated routes where signed, avoid shortcutting, keep e-bikes off trails, and prepare for a basic forest outing with your own water, navigation, and weather gear.
