Mount Blanchet Park | British Columbia

Mount Blanchet Park is a mountainous park between the northwest arm and the main body of Takla Lake at Takla Narrows. BC Parks says there is no road access and no facilities.

Designated in January 2001, the park protects valuable wildlife habitat on the south-facing slopes along the northwest arm of Takla Lake.

Why Visit Mount Blanchet Park

Mount Blanchet is a remote habitat-protection park for prepared visitors. BC Parks highlights spring range for ungulates, significant caribou overwintering and calving areas, alpine habitat suitable for mountain goat and grizzly bear, and creeks frequented by sockeye salmon.

The park has no developed trails, but BC Parks notes a rough trail from the shore of Takla Lake to Mount Blanchet. Extensive alpine habitat creates wildlife-viewing potential, although access is difficult and any viewing should be done with distance and care. This is not a roadside or facility-based destination; its appeal is the combination of Takla Lake, alpine terrain, and conservation value.

Things To Do

Hike the rough shore-to-mountain route if conditions and skills allow, fish with the proper licence, watch for caribou, mountain goat, grizzly bear, and sockeye habitat from a distance, photograph Takla Lake scenery, and hunt during open seasons where regulations allow.

Planning Notes

Plan for remote access with no road approach, no facilities, and no developed trail network. Bring navigation, emergency gear, water, food, and weather protection. Follow hunting and fishing regulations, avoid disturbing wildlife, and keep travel low-impact around alpine and creek habitats. BC Parks lists map references 93N/4 and 93N/5 for the area.
