Mkwal'ts Conservancy | British Columbia

Mkwal'ts Conservancy is about 20 kilometres southeast of Pemberton on the western shore of Lillooet Lake. BC Parks says the conservancy is within Lil'wat Nation Traditional Territory and protects the lower portion of the Ure Creek watershed.

The upper part of the watershed lies within adjacent Garibaldi Park, making the conservancy part of a larger protected mountain landscape above Lillooet Lake.

Why Visit Mkwal'ts Conservancy

Mkwal'ts is a compact watershed conservancy of about 3,874 hectares. Its value is in protecting the lower Ure Creek watershed and connecting to nearby protected areas around Pemberton and Lillooet Lake.

BC Parks notes that Garibaldi Park is adjacent, while Nairn Falls Park, Joffre Lakes Park, and nearby conservancies are within 15 kilometres. Access is by the Green River Forest Service Road from Pemberton Airport Road, with the conservancy about nine kilometres after the Green River crossing. The official recreation activity listed by BC Parks is hunting during open seasons.

Things To Do

Hunt during open seasons where permitted by regulation, observe watershed and forested mountain terrain from legal access points, photograph the Lillooet Lake and Pemberton-area setting, and learn how the conservancy connects to Garibaldi Park and nearby protected areas.

Planning Notes

Expect a low-service conservancy rather than a developed trail park. Carry navigation, water, emergency supplies, and road-condition awareness for the forest service road, follow hunting regulations, and respect Lil'wat cultural connections to the area. Check access conditions before leaving Pemberton, because the official route uses backroad travel rather than a paved park entrance.
