Meridian Road (Vanderhoof) Ecological Reserve | British Columbia

Meridian Road (Vanderhoof) Ecological Reserve is about 40 kilometres south of Vanderhoof. BC Parks says the reserve was established to retain a sample of mature Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir forest representative of uplands within the Nechako Plateau.

The reserve is managed for conservation, research, and education rather than developed recreation.

Why Visit Meridian Road Ecological Reserve

Meridian Road is a careful-observation destination for visitors interested in mature interior upland forest. BC Parks identifies Engelmann Spruce-Subalpine Fir and Sub-Boreal Spruce biogeoclimatic zones, along with the Nazko Upland terrestrial ecosection.

As with other ecological reserves, public access is limited to non-destructive activities such as hiking, nature observation, and photography. The value of a visit is in observing the forest sample while leaving it intact. BC Parks provides a detailed reserve description for educational and research use, and research or educational activities require a permit.

Things To Do

Walk carefully where appropriate, observe mature spruce and fir forest, photograph forest structure, and use the official reserve map and description for learning. Keep the visit quiet, short, and focused on protected natural values.

Planning Notes

Hunting, fishing, camping, foraging, and motorized vehicles are prohibited. Official maps are informational and not legal navigation tools. Bring your own navigation, avoid disturbing forest soils or vegetation, and leave natural materials in place. Because the reserve protects a representative upland forest sample, keep travel to durable ground and avoid breaking branches, marking trees, or widening informal routes. Research or education work needs a permit. Keep visits quiet and brief.
