Marble River Park | British Columbia

Marble River Park is on northern Vancouver Island, where Rupert Inlet, Holberg Inlet, Quatsino Sound, and Neroutsos Inlet meet. BC Parks places it about 15 kilometres north of Port Alice and 35 kilometres southwest of Port Hardy, with boat access also possible from Coal Harbour.

The park is known for wilderness hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, salmon viewing, and fishing.

Why Visit Marble River Park

The 4.2-kilometre Marble River Trail is the main route into the park. BC Parks says it provides river access for fall salmon spawning viewing, with interpretive signs along the way and viewing areas near the trailhead and at Bear Falls. Bear Falls also has an interpretive sign and fish ladder.

Angling is another major draw. BC Parks describes the river as one of Vancouver Island's best steelhead fishing rivers, with fly fishing on the river and tidal water fishing in the marine part of the park. Chinook, coho, steelhead, cutthroat, rainbow, and Dolly Varden are listed, and the Emerald Pools are at the end of the trail.

Things To Do

Hike or bike the Marble River Trail, watch spawning salmon, fish with the proper licence and current regulations, ocean kayak or canoe in Varney Bay and Quatsino Narrows, swim cautiously in the ocean, camp in walk-in wilderness style, and hunt in permitted portions.

Planning Notes

Black bears frequent the river, especially during salmon spawning. Expect windfall or debris on the trail, keep pets leashed, follow biking signs, check marine charts for Quatsino waters, and confirm fishing regulations before casting.
