Malaspina Park | British Columbia

Malaspina Park is in the Desolation Sound area, about 30 kilometres northwest of Powell River on the eastern and northern shoreline of Malaspina Peninsula. BC Parks says it protects significant natural values while providing low-elevation coastal hiking and backcountry recreation.

The park includes the northern portion of the Sunshine Coast Trail and is grouped with nearby Desolation Sound parks for backcountry registration.

Why Visit Malaspina Park

Malaspina Park suits hikers, paddlers, and boaters planning a coastal backcountry trip near Lund and Okeover Arm. BC Parks describes Desolation Sound as a very popular kayak and boating destination, with designated campsites spread through Desolation Sound, Copeland Islands, and Malaspina marine park areas.

For overnight planning, BC Parks groups Malaspina with Copeland Islands, Roscoe Bay, and Desolation Sound Marine Parks under one Desolation Sound Parks backcountry registration. The registration does not reserve a specific campsite, but lets visitors prepay before leaving home. Most kayakers and boaters launch from Lund Harbour or the Okeover Harbour Government Dock, while other boaters arrive from Georgia Strait.

Things To Do

Hike the Sunshine Coast Trail section, plan coastal backcountry camping, launch a kayak or small boat from Lund or Okeover, connect with nearby Desolation Sound parks, and hunt during open seasons where permitted.

Planning Notes

Use designated campsites to protect sensitive areas, register overnight stays before travelling, expect limited free parking near Okeover and pay parking in Lund, and check marine weather before launching. Because camping pressure affects sensitive sites, keep groups compact and follow posted kiosk guidance.
