Lockhart Creek Park | British Columbia

Lockhart Creek Park is on the east shore of Kootenay Lake, beside Highway 3A and across the road from Lockhart Beach Park. BC Parks describes it as a forested park protecting Lockhart Creek and a small valley of Interior Cedar-Hemlock forest.

The park is about 40 kilometres north of Creston and is most often paired with a visit to the lakeside campground, beach, and day-use area at Lockhart Beach.

Why Visit Lockhart Creek Park

Lockhart Creek gives Kootenay Lake travellers a short inland contrast to the open water. The trail follows the creek through moist forest and climbs to a viewpoint, with the sound of water, cedar-hemlock shade, and glimpses back toward the lake and mountains.

BC Parks notes the park's importance as habitat for a range of wildlife. Visitors may see signs of deer, elk, black bear, cougar, and smaller forest species, while the creek corridor supports a quieter, more enclosed experience than the adjacent beach. It is a useful stop when you want a low-key walk rather than a long backcountry outing.

Things To Do

Walk the Lockhart Creek trail, look for forest plants and wildlife signs, photograph creek and lake views, and combine the hike with swimming, camping, or paddling at Lockhart Beach Park across the highway.

Planning Notes

This is a small trail-focused park with limited services. Carry water, stay on the maintained route, keep pets leashed, and use caution around wildlife. Cyclists and e-bike riders should follow BC Parks restrictions and stay to permitted roads.
