Lockhart Beach Park sits on the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake, just north of the community of Boswell and about 40 kilometres north of Creston. BC Parks describes it as a small lakeside park with sandy beach, warm water, and mountain views.
The park is beside Highway 3A, making it an easy Kootenay Lake stop for camping, swimming, picnicking, and short walks.
Lockhart Beach is appealing because it combines a simple lakeshore campground with direct Kootenay Lake access. The setting is quieter than larger resort-style lake destinations, yet it still gives campers the essentials: beach time, paddling, fishing, and views across the water to the Purcell Mountains.
The park also connects to Lockhart Creek Park across the highway. BC Parks notes a short trail that follows Lockhart Creek through Interior Cedar-Hemlock forest to a viewpoint, so visitors can pair lake recreation with a shaded forest walk. The creek-side trail is especially useful when the beach is busy or when the weather turns cooler.
Camp near Kootenay Lake, swim from the beach, picnic by the water, canoe or kayak in settled conditions, fish with the proper licence, and walk the Lockhart Creek trail across the highway. Cycling is limited to roads, and e-bikes are allowed only where motor vehicles are permitted.
There are no lifeguards. Swimmers and paddlers should assess lake conditions carefully, and pets must be leashed and kept off beach areas and out of park buildings. Check BC Parks advisories before travelling the Kootenay Lake corridor.
