Kluskoil Lake Park is 100 kilometres northwest of Quesnel. BC Parks says the park protects valuable wildlife habitat in sub-boreal pine and spruce forest and wetlands, while offering a variety of recreational opportunities.
The Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail travels through the park from Quesnel toward the Bella Coola Valley, following the Blackwater River and crossing the Rainbow Range in Tweedsmuir Park.
Kluskoil Lake Park is a wilderness destination tied closely to the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail. From the upper crossing of the Euchiniko River, visitors can travel 18 kilometres to Kluskoil Lake by foot, horseback, mountain bike, ATV, or high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle. Floatplane access is also listed.
The route is serious. BC Parks says the Euchiniko River crossing is several feet deep most of the year and higher during spring runoff, and the park may be inaccessible in spring and early summer because of high water at the river and creeks along the trail.
Canoeing on Kluskoil Lake gives access to wetlands and wildlife viewing, but the Blackwater River is not recommended for canoeing. Paddlers at Kluskoil Lake must watch for Chine Falls flowing out of the lake near the campground.
Plan around wilderness camping, hiking the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail, horseback travel, mountain biking, high-clearance access, floatplane access, Kluskoil Lake canoeing, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing.
Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. BC Parks recommends buying the trail guide and 1:50,000 maps before planning a trip.
