Kimsquit Estuary Conservancy | British Columbia

Kimsquit Estuary Conservancy is at the mouth of the Kimsquit River at the head of Dean Channel. BC Parks places it about 40 kilometres north of Bella Coola and 60 kilometres northeast of Bella Bella.

The conservancy was established as part of the government's land use decision for the central coast planning area.

Why Visit Kimsquit Estuary Conservancy

Kimsquit Estuary Conservancy protects a large estuary with very high conservation values. BC Parks says the area receives heavy use from grizzly bears and contains important habitat for juvenile salmon.

Unlike some sparse conservancy pages, this one names specific recreation interests: grizzly bear viewing and sport fishing for coho salmon and cutthroat trout. That does not make the estuary casual or facility-based. It means visitors should plan around wildlife safety, marine access, fishing regulations, and respectful distance from sensitive habitat.

BC Parks also lists hunting during open seasons. The official page does not describe campgrounds, toilets, trails, picnic areas, or visitor facilities, so expectations should stay remote and self-reliant. The page also links a Marine Visitor Guide, wildlife safety, and fishing and hunting guidance for planning around this remote coast area.

Things To Do

Plan around marine route research, grizzly bear viewing from appropriate areas, sport fishing for coho salmon and cutthroat trout, estuary photography, salmon-habitat awareness, and hunting where open and permitted.

Planning Notes

Use the Marine Visitor Guide, check advisories, prepare for Central Coast weather and access logistics, carry required fishing licences, and follow all BC hunting regulations and open-season rules.
