Kickininee Park is 10 kilometres north of Penticton's city centre, off Highway 97. BC Parks describes three tiny picnic areas: Kickininee, Soorimpt, and Pyramid, tucked between the highway and Okanagan Lake.
The park was established on August 3, 1970.
Kickininee Park is a simple Okanagan Lake stop for picnics, swimming, fishing, boating access, and a break from highway driving. It is not a trail park: BC Parks says there are no developed trails and no viewing platform, though there are excellent Okanagan Lake shoreline and water views.
Each site has a slightly different access pattern. Kickininee can only be entered by northbound traffic because there is no left-turn lane for southbound traffic, and visitors drive through the park and exit north. Soorimpt can be accessed by northbound or southbound traffic because of highway turning lanes, and it has the boat launch. Pyramid can also be accessed from both directions, with one-way traffic through the parking loop.
Swimming areas are marked with buoys, but there are no lifeguards. Fishing is listed, and anyone fishing needs the proper licence.
Plan around lakeside picnics, designated swimming areas, Okanagan Lake views, fishing, launching a boat at Soorimpt, short rest stops, and relaxed lake photography.
Pay close attention to Highway 97 access rules and one-way traffic patterns. Keep pets leashed, keep them out of beach areas and park buildings, and do not expect developed trails. Backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs because of wildlife concerns.
