Jimsmith Lake Park | British Columbia

Jimsmith Lake Park is a peaceful lakeside park five kilometres west of Cranbrook, reached from Highway 3/95 by a paved secondary road. BC Parks describes a 35-site campground among Douglas fir and larch forest, rebuilt in 2001 to accommodate recreational vehicles.

Day-use gates are open from 8am to 10pm.

Why Visit Jimsmith Lake Park

Jimsmith Lake Park is a convenient Kootenay camping and beach retreat close to Cranbrook. Sunbathing, sandy-beach swimming, picnicking, canoeing, kayaking, and other non-motorized boating are core activities. Power boats are prohibited, so the lake has a quieter recreation feel than larger motorboat lakes.

Fishing is also popular. BC Parks notes jumbo rainbow trout and largemouth bass as regular sport fish here. The lakeside Douglas fir and larch forest, arid montane benchland setting, and cattail marsh edges make the park useful for nature study and wildlife viewing.

Winter changes the use pattern. BC Parks describes the park as a snowy playground for tobogganing and ice skating, giving it local value beyond the summer campground season. The community of Cranbrook is five kilometres east of the park. Frontcountry camping reservations are listed.

Things To Do

Plan around frontcountry camping, sandy beach swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, canoeing, kayaking, car-top boating, rainbow trout and bass fishing, nature study, wildlife viewing, winter tobogganing, and ice skating.

Planning Notes

Power boats are prohibited; use car-top boats or canoes only. Pets must be leashed and are not allowed in beach areas, day-use areas, or park buildings. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and motorized-use areas.
