Horsefly Lake Park | British Columbia

Horsefly Lake Park is on Horsefly Lake, about 65 kilometres from 150 Mile House off Highway 97 and 13 kilometres northeast of the community of Horsefly. BC Parks describes a popular 23-site campground and day-use area with a developed beach, horseshoe pit, and nature trail.

The large, deep lake is a favourite for rainbow trout fishing.

Why Visit Horsefly Lake Park

Horsefly Lake Park is a compact Cariboo camping and lake recreation park. Visitors can swim at a roped beach, fish, canoe, kayak, paddle, waterski, windsurf, scuba dive, snorkel, and hike a 1.2-kilometre trail to a viewpoint above the lake. Canoes, paddle boats, and a powerboat may be rented from the park operator.

The lake is often fished by trolling, and nearby smaller lakes are known for fly-fishing. BC Parks also notes the area's sockeye history: two unnamed lakes in the park were once part of a hatchery effort to restore the Horsefly River run, and evidence of the old spawning channel remains. The park was established in 1974 as a high-recreation-value area.

Forests of fir, spruce, birch, cedar, old-growth cedar, and Douglas fir give the park more than a beach feel.

Things To Do

Plan around frontcountry camping, beach swimming, rainbow trout fishing, paddling, boat rentals, waterskiing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, the lake viewpoint trail, horseshoes, and nearby Horsefly River salmon viewing in mid-September.

Planning Notes

Use safe boating procedures and watch for swimmers, canoeists, and kayakers. ORVs are prohibited. There is no sani-station in the park, though services are available in the local community.
