Hesquiat Lake Park is a remote Clayoquot Sound park on the east side of Hesquiat Lake, northeast of Hesquiat Harbour on the west coast of Vancouver Island. BC Parks says it can only be reached by boat via Hesquiat Harbour or by floatplane.
The park protects mature western hemlock, western red cedar, and lodgepole pine forest.
Hesquiat Lake Park is for experienced travellers looking for a rugged, quiet lake setting with very difficult access. BC Parks notes that the park receives few visitors because reaching it is hard and there are no developed facilities.
The main recreation opportunities are nature appreciation, canoeing, kayaking, backcountry lake fishing, and hunting in portions of the park during open seasons. Hesquiat Lake fishing is a remote experience, and access to the lake itself is described as very difficult. Nearby communities include Tofino, Flores Island, Ahousat, and Hot Springs Village.
This is not a casual beach park. There is no designated swimming area, no developed trails, no potable water, and no built campground. The appeal is the chance to experience a protected coastal lake and mature forest landscape with a high level of self-reliance.
Plan around boat or floatplane access, quiet lake observation, canoeing, kayaking, remote backcountry fishing, forest photography, nature appreciation, and hunting only where specific portions are open and regulations allow.
Bring drinking water or treat all surface water. Campfires are not permitted. Expect no facilities or trails, keep pets leashed, and confirm marine, aviation, fishing, and hunting logistics before travelling.
