Heather-Dina Lakes Park sits along the eastern edge of Williston Lake, about 25 kilometres north of Mackenzie. BC Parks describes mature mixed forest, numerous small lakes, and two primitive campground and day-use areas at Heather Lake and Dina Lake.
Facilities here are rustic because management was transferred from the Forest Service to BC Parks.
Heather-Dina Lakes Park is a strong choice for paddlers who want a small-lake circuit in a quiet Omineca setting. The Dina Lakes canoe circuit links five small lakes by portage trails. BC Parks says it takes four to five hours, with just over six kilometres of paddling and roughly 1.5 kilometres of portages. The longest portage is about 700 metres.
The park also supports camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, hunting during open seasons, and winter travel. Heather Lake and Dina Lake both have fishing values, and Heather Lake and Dina Lake #1 are popular locally for ice fishing.
Wildlife viewing is part of the experience, with BC Parks noting the lake chain as an excellent area for canoe- and kayak-based observation.
Plan around rustic camping, the Dina Lakes canoe circuit, kayaking, swimming, fishing, ice fishing, short hiking near Heather and Dina lakes, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and hunting where open.
Bring drinking water or treat all water. Wet weather can make four-wheel drive advisable on the Parsnip West Forest Service Road. Wear long pants and closed shoes on the Dina #3 to Dina #4 portage because of cow-parsnip and stinging nettle.
