Harmony Islands Marine Park | British Columbia

Harmony Islands Marine Park is on the east side of Hotham Island, north of Granville Bay, near Powell River. BC Parks says the park consists of the southernmost island; the other islands are privately owned and are not part of the park.

The park is popular with boaters and can be congested on long weekends and in summer.

Why Visit Harmony Islands Marine Park

Harmony Islands Marine Park is a small marine destination for boaters looking for safe anchorage, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing in Hotham Sound. One mile south of the park, Freil Lake Falls drops into the sound from Freil Lake, adding a strong scenic feature nearby.

The recreation is simple and water-focused. BC Parks lists rocky-beach ocean swimming, canoeing, kayaking, tidal-water fishing, and scuba diving or snorkeling for self-equipped parties. There are no scuba rentals in the park and no canoe or kayak camping. The closest community is Powell River, and the park's popularity means timing matters during peak boating periods.

Because only the southernmost island is public park, visitors need to pay close attention to boundaries and avoid trespassing on neighbouring private islands.

Things To Do

Plan around safe anchorage, ocean swimming, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, self-equipped scuba diving, tidal-water fishing, viewing Freil Lake Falls from the area, and relaxed boat-based picnics.

Planning Notes

Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. There are no developed trails and no facilities. Rockfish Conservation Areas occur within the park, so check fishing limits before casting, and respect all private property nearby.
