Green Lake Park | British Columbia

Green Lake Park is a multi-site Cariboo lake park about 16 kilometres northeast of 70 Mile House, with access from Highway 97 or Highway 24 near Lone Butte. BC Parks says the park includes 11 sites around Green Lake, one of the larger lakes in the southern Cariboo.

Developed recreation sites include Arrowhead, Blue Spring, Emerald Bay, Little Arrowhead, and Sunset View.

Why Visit Green Lake Park

Green Lake Park is built for classic summer lake recreation. The lake is about 14 kilometres long, averages 1.5 kilometres wide, and has an irregular shoreline of about 57 kilometres. Its shallow, warm water and chemical composition help create the green hue that gives the lake its name.

Visitors come for frontcountry camping, group camping, picnicking, sandy and pebble beaches, swimming areas at day-use and campground sites, boating, waterskiing, and fishing. Rainbow trout are stocked annually, though BC Parks describes fishing as fair to good and locally challenging.

The park also protects Cariboo landscapes of open rangeland, aspen, lodgepole pine, waterfowl habitat, and natural and cultural values at lower-recreation sites such as Boyd Bay, Black Bear, Buckside Hill, Green Lake Islands, and Nolan Creek.

Things To Do

Plan around camping, beach swimming, boating, waterskiing, rainbow trout fishing, the one-kilometre self-guided interpretive trail at Sunset View, road cycling, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and guided horseback riding at Emerald Bay.

Planning Notes

Canoeing and kayaking are not recommended because strong winds can rise on the large lake. ORVs, including ATVs, off-road motorcycles, snowmobiles, and side-by-sides, are prohibited. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and motorized-use areas.
