Gordon Bay Park | British Columbia

Gordon Bay Park sits on the shores of Lake Cowichan, about 35 kilometres northwest of Duncan on southern Vancouver Island. BC Parks presents it as a family camping destination with warm summer water, a sandy beach, and access to one of Vancouver Island's sunniest valleys.

The park is reached from Highway 18 through Lake Cowichan and South Shore Road.

Why Visit Gordon Bay Park

Gordon Bay Park is built around easy lake days. Cowichan Lake has warm summer swimming, a designated beach area, canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing, windsurfing, freshwater diving, and a boat launch northeast of the day-use parking lot. Anglers visit in spring, fall, and winter for rainbow, cutthroat, and Dolly Varden trout.

The land side is useful too. Short in-park trails lead to the lake and pass through second-growth Douglas fir forest. BC Parks notes birdlife, wildflowers in April, and nearby logging-history displays and local museums around the Cowichan Valley.

The park supports frontcountry camping and group camping, making it a practical Vancouver Island base for families who want swimming, picnicking, and simple walking trails without giving up lake access. Adjacent Honeymoon Bay Ecological Reserve adds nearby conservation context for rare and endangered plant species.

Things To Do

Plan around camping, beach swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, trout fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing, short hikes, freshwater diving, picnicking, birdwatching, and nearby history stops around Lake Cowichan and Honeymoon Bay.

Planning Notes

Use the designated swimming area and keep boats outside the swim buoys. Pets must be leashed and are not allowed on beaches or in park buildings. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and motorized-use areas.
