Goosegrass Creek Ecological Reserve is on the west side of Kinbasket Lake, also known as Mica Reservoir, about 20 kilometres east of Mica Creek. BC Parks says it protects an entire drainage basin with a wide elevational range and representative, undisturbed examples of three biogeoclimatic zones in a wet interior climate.
This is an ecological reserve, so protection, research, and education come first.
Goosegrass Creek Ecological Reserve is for careful visitors who want to observe a protected drainage without leaving a recreation footprint. BC Parks says ecological reserves are not intended for outdoor recreation, but this reserve is open to the public for non-destructive activities such as hiking, nature observation, and photography.
The official page identifies Engelmann Spruce-Subalpine Fir, Interior Cedar-Hemlock, and Interior Mountain-heather Alpine zones, plus the Big Bend Trench and Northern Kootenay Mountains ecosections. That range gives the reserve value as an outdoor study area, especially for people interested in intact wet interior ecosystems.
Because consumptive activities are prohibited, the right pace here is slow and observational. Visitors should stay focused on terrain awareness, vegetation protection, and leaving natural features exactly where they are.
Plan around non-destructive hiking, nature observation, photography, map review, and learning from the ecological reserve's detailed description before visiting or using the area for education.
Hunting, fishing, camping, foraging, and motorized vehicles are prohibited. Research and educational activities require a permit. Any BC Parks maps are for information only and should not be used as navigation tools.
