Golden Ears Park is one of British Columbia's largest parks and one of its busiest camping destinations. It lies in the Coast Mountains, 11 kilometres north of Maple Ridge on the north side of the Fraser River, just over an hour east of Vancouver.
BC Parks describes three large campgrounds, extensive hiking and horseback-riding trails, and Alouette Lake as a major recreation focus.
Golden Ears Park is a classic Lower Mainland choice because it combines big mountain terrain with easy road access. Alouette Lake supports swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, windsurfing, and waterskiing. Canoe, kayak, and pedalboat rentals are offered at the Alouette South Beach day-use area when weather and season allow.
The trail system ranges from short walks to serious mountain routes. BC Parks notes rugged backcountry, more than 20 kilometres of cycling trails, over 20 kilometres of horse trails, and strenuous climbs toward Alouette Mountain and the Golden Ears. Some routes involve long distances, major elevation gain, snow into summer, and limited water.
Nature viewing includes coastal western hemlock forest, waterways, sphagnum bogs, black bear habitat, deer, beaver, mountain goat, and birdlife. Interpretive programs may be available through Discover Parks in summer.
Plan around camping, lake swimming, paddling, boat-access campsites, hiking, backcountry camping, cycling, e-biking on designated trails, horseback riding, fishing, windsurfing, waterskiing, wildlife viewing, and Parkbus access from Vancouver.
Peak-season day-use vehicle passes may be required. Cell service is poor or unavailable in many areas, including campgrounds and Alouette South Beach. Check trail conditions, leave a trip plan, and carry maps and emergency gear.
