Foster Arm Protected Area is a remote BC Parks protected area on the north side of Foster Creek and west side of Kinbasket Lake. BC Parks says it is not accessible by road, and current access is by boat from Kinbasket Lake.
The closest community is Valemount.
Foster Arm is a low-use protected area where conservation values outweigh developed recreation. BC Parks says it was created through the Robson Valley Land and Resource Management Plan and the Protected Areas Strategy to protect diverse tree species, caribou habitat, and high grizzly bear density.
The lower protected area contains representative examples of the Upper Fraser Trench Ecosection. At lower elevations, two Interior Cedar Hemlock biogeoclimatic subzones thrive, including the rare and provincially underrepresented Interior Cedar Hemlock moist mild subzone. Higher elevations represent the Northern Columbia Mountains ecosection and are dominated by Engelmann spruce-subalpine fir.
Recreation opportunities are considered low because access is limited and facilities are lacking. BC Parks lists lakeshore fishing and hunting during open season, with no developed trails. The protected area is tied to Foster Creek and Kinbasket Lake planning.
Plan around Kinbasket Lake boat access, lakeshore fishing with the required licence, caribou habitat learning, grizzly-bear safety, rare Interior Cedar Hemlock study, Foster Creek context, remote map review, and seasonal hunting where permitted.
Bring drinking water, travel self-sufficiently, expect no developed trails or facilities, leash pets, and use caution on active logging roads where loaded logging trucks have the right of way.
