Exchamsiks River Park sits at the confluence of the Exchamsiks and Skeena Rivers, 56 kilometres west of Terrace on Highway 16. BC Parks highlights coastal Sitka spruce rainforest, a self-guided nature trail, productive salmon fishing nearby, and two day-use areas.
On the west side of the river, a single paved boat launch is available when the access road is snow-free.
Exchamsiks River Park is a compact day-use destination for old-growth forest walking, river access, fishing, paddling, and highway-trip breaks between Terrace and Prince Rupert. The short two kilometre loop nature trail has an easy grade and lets visitors move through the old-growth forest at their own pace.
The park also provides access to the Skeena River and upper Exchamsiks River for canoeing or kayaking. Fishing is available on both rivers, with current regulations required. Bicycles must stay on roadways, and e-bikes are not allowed on trails except where BC Parks criteria and permitted areas apply.
The closest communities listed by BC Parks are Terrace, 50 kilometres east, Port Edward, 80 kilometres west, and Prince Rupert, 90 kilometres west.
Plan around the two kilometre interpretive nature trail, old-growth Sitka spruce viewing, Skeena River boat launch use, canoeing, kayaking, salmon fishing with the required licence, roadway cycling, river photography, and leashed-pet walks.
Day-use areas are open May 15 to October 1, and camping is prohibited on the east side of the park. The boat-launch access road is not plowed, so check road and weather conditions before travelling.
