Cypress Park is a BC Parks mountain park on the North Shore of Metro Vancouver, reached from the Upper Levels Highway in West Vancouver. BC Parks describes it as a four-season park for hiking, skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, snowshoeing, and wilderness camping.
The southern section is surrounded by Mount Strachan, Black Mountain, Hollyburn Mountain, and West Vancouver, while the northern section follows the Howe Sound Crest Trail.
Cypress is a major Vancouver-area mountain destination with views over Howe Sound, the Salish Sea, Vancouver, Mount Baker, the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and Georgia Strait. Cypress Mountain Resort operates downhill and nordic skiing activities within the park.
Hiking is available year-round, but terrain can be rugged and hazardous in poor weather. Popular summer routes include Eagle Bluffs and the Howe Sound Crest Trail. Wildlife viewing is possible from several locations, including stops along the Yew Lake Barrier Free Interpretive Trail, and coyotes and deer are often seen near the access road.
Winter planning is a large part of the park. From November 1 to May 31, backcountry users must use the backcountry access corridor through Cypress Resort's ski area, and BC Parks strongly discourages winter travel to Eagle Bluffs and along the Howe Sound Crest Trail beyond Bowen Lookout.
Plan around hiking, trail viewpoints, wildlife viewing, downhill skiing, nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, wilderness camping, Howe Sound Crest Trail access, and road-based cycling.
There is a permanent campfire ban. Bring warm clothing, rain gear, navigation equipment, and a trip plan. Park only in designated areas, use Lot 3B for overnight trips, keep pets leashed, note that bikes and e-bikes are not allowed on trails, and check avalanche and trail conditions before winter travel.
