Crooked River Park | British Columbia

Crooked River Park is a 963 hectare BC Parks site about 70 kilometres north of Prince George on Highway 97. BC Parks describes it as an hour drive north of Prince George, with three beautiful lakes in the Fraser Basin.

Bear Lake is the park's popular swimming and camping area.

Why Visit Crooked River Park

Crooked River is a family-friendly northern park for lake camping, sandy beach swimming, trails, fishing, paddling, wildlife viewing, and winter outings. Bear Lake has 460 metres of natural sandy beach, change houses, picnic tables, and firepits, and powerboats are not permitted in the park.

The park offers nine kilometres of marked trail. One route goes to and around Square Lake, another overlooks the Crooked River, and a third encircles Bear Lake for an evening stroll. Livingston Springs, a cold-water spring flowing year-round, is another natural feature.

Fishing is available in Crooked River, Square Lake, and Hart Lake for rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, or Rocky Mountain whitefish. Square Lake is available for ice fishing; Hart Lake is closed to ice fishing. Wildlife may include river otters, beavers, muskrats, lynx, red fox, coyotes, black bears, bald eagles, ospreys, and winter trumpeter swans.

Things To Do

Plan around frontcountry camping, Bear Lake swimming, marked hiking trails, canoeing, kayaking, lake and river fishing, wildlife viewing, road and signed-trail cycling, windsurfing, snowshoeing, and winter ice fishing at Square Lake.

Planning Notes

Stay within designated swimming areas, store food in vehicles at night, keep to trails in the pine forest, and note that alcohol is not permitted on the beach or day-use area. Pets are not allowed in the day-use area, and hunting is closed.
