Cormorant Channel Marine Park | British Columbia

Cormorant Channel Marine Park is a boat-access BC Parks marine park made up of islands in the Pearse and Plumper groups, at the western end of Johnstone Strait between Hanson Island and Cormorant Island. BC Parks says it is two nautical miles north of Telegraph Cove.

The marine park offers safe overnight anchorages for boaters travelling these waters.

Why Visit Cormorant Channel Marine Park

Cormorant Channel is a standout destination for paddlers, boaters, wildlife watchers, anglers, and divers. BC Parks identifies the channel as part of the core habitat of the northern resident orca population and one of the best places in the world to see them in their natural habitat.

The park is also part of the popular Johnstone Strait sea kayaking circuit and provides a corridor between Johnstone Strait and Blackfish Sound. Paddlers can find overnight camping areas, especially in the Pearse Islands. Activities include ocean swimming without designated swim areas, canoeing, kayaking, saltwater fishing, wildlife viewing, and world-class scuba diving in wildlife-rich tidal channels.

Other wildlife may include humpback and minke whales, harbour porpoises, Dall's porpoises, Pacific white-sided dolphins, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, great blue herons, harlequin ducks, rhinoceros auklets, black bears, and cougars.

Things To Do

Plan around boat-based camping, sea kayaking, whale watching, marine mammal viewing, ocean swimming, saltwater fishing, scuba diving, wildlife photography, and chart-based travel from Telegraph Cove or nearby launches.

Planning Notes

Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. Boaters should carry tide tables and the correct nautical charts, prepare for strong tidal currents, dense fog, high winds, and seas, and check rockfish conservation area rules before fishing.
